Jacqueline Zimmer Brown, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 10, 2025, at the age of 82, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, surrounded by her family. Born on August 15, 1943, in Schenectady, New York, Jackie was a vivacious spirit whose influence touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Jackie was the daughter of John Stephens Zimmer and Antionette Davis Zimmer, who instilled in her the values of kindness, creativity, and hard work. She carried these values throughout her life and shared them generously with her family and friends.
On April 15, 1967, Jackie married Lane Brown, the love of her life, in Waynesboro, Virginia. Their 58-year marriage was a testament to their deep love and commitment to one another. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Jacqueline’s world. She is survived by her loving husband, Lane Brown; her daughter, Stephanie Brown Hawkins (Keith); her son, Joshua Hungerford Brown (Jamye); her sister, Ruth Zimmer Steck (Marc); five cherished grandchildren; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.
Jackie’s educational journey began at Virginia Intermont College and continued at James Madison University, where she honed her artistic talents and developed a love for learning. Though she initially worked as a preschool teacher, her most fulfilling role was that of a dedicated stay-at-home mother and wife. Jackie poured her heart into nurturing her children, creating a warm and loving home filled with laughter and joy.
An artist at heart, Jackie designed, and with Lane, built a home that was architecturally unique. Her home was her palette, and she furnished and decorated it in her formal yet livable style. She also loved working in the yard, and she furthered her skills by becoming a Master Gardener. Jackie was always an inspiration to her husband, Lane. Her ideas were often a challenge, but always a welcome one to him, since they were always perfect.
In memory of her life and passions, contributions may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA, honoring her love for animals and her unwavering dedication to making the world a better place.
Jacqueline Zimmer Brown's legacy is one of love, creativity, and warmth, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A reception celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
