He was the son of the late Harold and India Weston. According to his mother, and he always listened to his mother, Harold was born on October 4, 1931, in Alexandria, Virginia. State documents and the Navy, however, insist it was October 2. The family always trusted that a mother knows best and celebrated on October 4 every year.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Edna May Munday Weston; an infant son, Thomas; his brother, William Weston; and his sister, Betty Couch. He is survived by his son, Harold III (Skip) and wife, Tracie; daughters, Cynthia and Lynne Weston, and Linda Michael and husband, Gerald (Jerry). He is also survived by two grandsons, Kevin Michael, U.S. Navy, and wife, Jill, and Zachary Weston and wife, Janna; a great-grandson, Ronan Michael; his brother, Douglas Weston; and sisters, Nancy Gray and Mary Ellen Turley.
During his distinguished naval career, Master Chief Weston served aboard the USS Worcester (CL 144), USS Toledo (CA 133), USS Triton (SSN 586), and USS Nathaniel Greene (SSBN 636). He served as Chief of the Boat aboard both the Triton and the Nathaniel Greene. He was a proud member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a life member of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc., Hampton Roads Base.
After more than 23 years of naval service, he continued his legacy of leadership by teaching HVAC at the Chesapeake Center for Science and Technology for 19 years. In retirement, he and Edna May enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including spending time with family, hosting extended family gatherings, visiting friends, traveling, fishing, and gardening, especially landscaping the beautiful home they built together. He remained a proud Navy veteran throughout his life and was often seen wearing his Navy gear with pride, attending naval reunions, and fondly sharing stories of his years at sea.
A private gathering will be held at a future date at Sharon Chapel in Alexandria, where he and Edna May attended church in their youth, and at the First Congregational Church of Marshfield, Marshfield, Massachusetts, at the Weston Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
