Eugenia Lorraine Morrison was born on September 24, 1941, at home in Fairfax, VA. She was 11 ½ lbs., the youngest of three girls (older sisters Jeneane and Gayle). As an infant, her family moved to Washington, D.C., where she attended St. Stephen's Catholic School until third grade. There, they learned manners, how to curtsy and embroider, along with academics. Although the girls loved roller skating in the city and walking to the movie theater, their dad, Gilmer Head, a country boy born and raised, thought Chantilly would be a better place to raise the girls. Their mom, Catherine (Ashford), agreed somewhat reluctantly.
Gilmer built them a house, which they moved into unfinished. Lorraine attended Floris Elementary from 3rd to 7th grade and Herndon High from 8th to 12th grade, graduating in 1959. Lorraine loved to sing and dance and was voted the best dancer in her senior class. She served as class treasurer and sang with church, school, and all-state choirs. She performed with the dance and jazz bands.
During high school, she worked two to three days a week as a nurse in a doctor’s office. After high school, she worked for two and a half years for the CIA. In 1960, she married George Morrison, a wounded Navy veteran, in a double ceremony with her sister, Jeneane, and Bruce Britton. Terry Lorraine was born in 1961. Lorraine and George lost a son, William Cameron, in 1962 to Tetralogy of Fallot, then their son George R. Morrison Jr. (Bob) was born in 1967.
When Bob went to a prep school in 1980, Lorraine decided to go back to work. She went to school and earned her Associate's in Applied Science and then her RN. She worked in a hospital as a Surgical Intensive Care Nurse for several years, then at Liberty Mutual as a Rehabilitation Nurse, before moving to Virginia Beach. Lorraine was the manager of the Tidewater office for CIGNA with specialists in the Virginia Beach and Richmond offices for several years. She earned her CRRN and was grandfathered into CIRS, enabling counseling of clients as well.
George retired at age 50, while Lorraine continued to work for three additional years part-time, quickly becoming full-time, and retired permanently at age 53. The two of them enjoyed their retirement by traveling. Hawaii was one of their favorite spots as well as cruises to Alaska and more. Another enjoyable past time for them was on their boat out on the bay fishing, cruising and entertaining their friends and family.
Lorraine was the primary caregiver of her mother, Catherine, who had Alzheimer’s until her death in 2001. Then she cared for her husband George, who had Alzheimer’s until he died in 2018 with help from Bob, who moved back home to assist, and Terry, who was always on-call.
After moving to Harbor’s Edge, Lorraine enjoyed water aerobics (pre-Covid), Bible studies, and playing Mahjong and Hand and Foot. She died on November 26, 2025, and is survived by two children, their spouses, six grandchildren, one bonus grandchild, and seven great-grandchildren.
