Stanley Oran Sharp

Stanley was born, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was preceded, in death, by his parents, Oran Clay Sharp and Darlene Sharp (nee Chaney), brothers Charles E. Sharp, and Gary W. Sharp. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Jann (Jeannette), of 40 years, who he always said “you are one of the best things that ever happened to me”; twin brothers Harrell and Darrell Sharp, step children, Jeffrey Robert Long (Kerry), son, Joel James Long, son, Jaroline Miller (Chris), daughter; Derrilyn Sharp Babin (Jim), daughter and Gregory O. Sharp, son; two grandchildren, Jeremy Babin (Kim) and Casey Babin; step grandchildren, Ashley Long Sewell (Elliot), Braeden Long, Garrett Miller, Chandler Miller and Hunter Long; two great grandchildren James Babin and Eliza Babin.

Stanley graduated from Texarkana High School, Texarkana, Texas and went on to earn his Mechanical Engineering degrees from The University of Texas at Arlington (BSME and MSME). Stan spent his working career in electronics packaging. Some of the electronics packaging programs were for human body implants, oil field exploration, microprocessors for computers and computer memory. He was active in the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA), served as the first Chairman of the Packaging Group and an elected member of the Board of Directors. He was also responsible for ensuring the Japanese Memory Card and the US Memory Card packaging specifications were compatible. Stanley also served four years in the United States Air Force.

Stanley’s accomplishments include three United States Patents, BYTE Annual Product Excellence Award by BYTE Magazine, Award by Anadrill (Schlumberger) for Engineering Improvements, presented the Mechanical Technical Standards for P.C.M.C.I.A. in Japan, Taiwan, England, France and Germany, Chairman of the Mechanical section of P.C.M.C.I.A, served on the P.C.M.C.I.A Board of Directors.

Memberships: The American Legion, and Various Clubs in The Villages, Florida.

Stanley moved from Austin, Texas to The Villages, Florida, in December 2004, with his wife Jann and dog Kelsey. They have lived in Cleveland, OH, Houston, TX, Roseburg, OR, Huntington Beach, CA and Scotts Valley, CA. Activities they enjoyed together are golfing, traveling and visiting with friends.

The family extends their gratitude to Stan’s dear friends. He fought a tough battle with pancreatic cancer never complaining of his pain.

A memorial service will be performed at a later date.
