Shirley Ann McGough

Shirley was born in Arlington, Virginia. She and her beloved husband, Billy, built a life together centered on faith, family, and love. They raised their three daughters in the Hialeah area of Florida and shared more than 60 years of marriage.

Shirley’s first love was God. She often spoke of hearing powerful preaching as a young girl that led her to believe in Jesus as her Savior. She was baptized at the age of 12, and her faith remained a source of strength and comfort throughout her life.

She was a deeply devoted mother who gave generously of herself and consistently put the needs of her daughters before her own. Giving brought Shirley great joy, and she truly preferred giving to receiving.

Shirley also had a larger-than-life personality. She was often the life of the party, never met a stranger, and genuinely loved being around people. She enjoyed conversation, laughter, and making connections with those around her. Her warmth and outgoing spirit made her memorable to so many.

As her daughters grew older, Shirley held a variety of jobs. Although she loved caring for her home and family, she also enjoyed working outside the home. One of her proudest accomplishments was attending cosmetology school as an adult and becoming a hairstylist.

Shirley and Billy later retired in Leesburg, Florida, where she enjoyed many of the simple things that brought her happiness. She loved the beach, swimming in her pool nearly every day, spending time in her yard, admiring her magnolia tree, and caring for her beautiful roses.

Shirley loved her family deeply, and her presence will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the many years we were blessed to share with her and for the memories she leaves behind. Those memories will be treasured by her family for generations to come.

Shirley was preceded in death by her devoted and loyal husband of more than 60 years, Billy.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rita Sue (Keith) Spires, JoAnn (Bryan) Strayer, and Patricia Kay (Louis) Garcia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and the many family members and friends whose lives were touched by her love, generosity, faith, and unforgettable spirit.
