Robert “Bob” A. Northrup, of the Villages, FL, formerly of Clarkston, MI, passed away on October 11, 2026 at the age of 74. Bob was born on January 12, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Walter and Esther Northrup.
Upon completing his bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit, Robert spent his career as a traffic engineer working first at the City of Trenton, Michigan and later retired from the City of Southfield, Michigan.
A proud Eagle Scout, Robert’s love for the outdoors remained steadfast into his retirement; he loved spending time outside at his home in The Villages, Florida, and at his cottage in Tawas City, Michigan. At home in The Villages, he enjoyed watching space launches from his backyard and golfing multiple times per week with his friends. In Michigan, he enjoyed watching freighters and sailboats pass by on Lake Huron. Regardless of where he was, Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. In June, Bob celebrated 26 years of sobriety, a milestone of which he was deeply proud.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Kim, to whom he was married on June 19th, 1976. Bob is also survived by his sister Janis Davis, sisters-in-law Polly Persells and Lori Persells, nephews Aaron Merchant and Alston Rockett, niece Megan Mueller, great nephews Kason and Kamdon Merchant, and his dear shih tzu Lucie.
Bob is remembered by his loved ones as someone who knew his way around a grill, could make an entire room laugh with ease, and could always be counted on to help his family, friends, and neighbors.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Esther Northrup, father- and mother-in-law Harold and Mary Persells, brother-in-law Terry Persells, and many beloved dogs, cats, and horses he shared with his wife, Kim.
