December 15, 1946 – December 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (“Bob”) Lee Brown, a beloved husband, family member and friend, who left us suddenly on December 19, 2025, at the age of 79. He was a resident of Wildwood, FL.
Bob Brown was born on December 15, 1946, in Waterloo, NY, where he grew up with the nickname “Brownie”. He graduated from Waterloo Central School in 1965, where he played football and lacrosse, participated in many social committees, and was even crowned the King of the Senior Ball.
After high school, Bob served in the U.S. Navy in Viet Nam from March 1966 to February 1970. During a break in his tour, he returned home to marry Carol Ann King in 1969, who passed away in 1999 after 30 years of marriage.
After his military, Bob and Carol moved to College Park, MD. While working full-time, he earned an associate’s degree in art from Prince George’s County Community College in 1979. He worked for the US Department of Agriculture; then the US Naval Academy; and finally, joined the US Postal Service as a postal carrier in College Park, where he took time to talk and make friends with the people on his route. He retired in 2006. These jobs were not his identity but a means to enjoy more out of life. By boat, plane or train, Bob often traveled, enjoying new sites, cultures and food. His last major trip was to Italy in 2018.
While still living in College Park, Bob married Linda M. Kendall Burgess in 2003, days after Hurricane Isobel which made this milestone event more special than they could have planned, The wind damage led to meeting new neighbors who helped to clean up the yard when they had to move the rehearsal dinner. Power loss at the church led to a more sacred ceremony. This marriage increased Bob’s family substantially with Linda’s many brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who all embraced him with love, good humor, and gratitude for his continual support, care and appreciation for the sweet things in life, especially cake.
In 2008, Bob and Linda moved to Wildwood FL to enjoy their retirement, but they still regularly traveled through multiple states to visit family and friends. Florida allowed more time in the year for Bob to hone his landscaping skills and enjoy the occasional meal or happy hour with friends on the lanai. And through his various battles with cancer, he appreciated every pretty flower that grew in his yard, even those he hadn’t planted. It was a reminder that even in the darkest of times, good things still show up in our lives.
Bob Brown is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda; his stepson, Sean Burgess (Colette); his stepdaughter Kimberly Grove (Morgan); his brother Duane Brown (Mary Jane); his two sisters, Cathy Olsowske and Shirley Zettlemoyer; his grandchildren: Kyle, Jackson, Caden, Zebulon, and Caroline; plus many nephews, nieces, cousins, and great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death his first wife, Carol; his father, Harrison Harold Brown; by his mother, Elsie Addie Kuney Brown; and his grandson Craig Kluckhuhn.
Friends and family are invited to Bob’s Celebration of Life ceremony at Rogers Park at 610 South 9th Street, in Leesburg, FL on January 9, 2026, starting at 11 am.
As we remember Bob, we remember him with a smile on his face and a glint in his eye which made any story told a little more humorous and cherished. Bob’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed but his legacy of care and support will forever resonate in our lives. In lieu of sending flowers to the family, please plant some flowers in your own yard this Spring and think of Bob, then invite a friend over to share a slice of cake or a happy hour beverage, tell a funny story, and appreciate the good things that continue to show up in our lives.
