Pauline Smith Jumper, often referred to as PJ, left us peacefully on January 31, 2025, to be wrapped in the arms of our Lord. Her loss has been difficult for the many people she continued to impact on a daily basis. Her smile, energy, wisdom and advocacy for people have been missed as well as her spirited nature we’ll all remember her for.
Pauline was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Lt. Charles W. Smith and Hilda C. Smith. She loved to tell stories of her thirteen relocations of schools as a ‘military brat’ and how she learned to make new friends with each move and retained many throughout life. She attended Landon High School in Jacksonville, Florida which served as a lifelong source of friendships all the way through her life. As a young University of Florida student, a strapping football player, Arlen N. Jumper, set his sights on Pauline and they were married and had two daughters, Linda and Kimberly. Pauline was instrumental in supporting Arlen’s career in citrus. Mementos find many articles, publications and photos of the couple’s joint success in the industry. Pauline prided herself in real estate development and entrepreneurship herself while she worked with her husband in his field.
In Pauline’s late thirties, she found herself single and chose to pursue her dream of obtaining her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Florida. She worked in the nursing field for decades and never left her nursing practices far from her as she loved to help others, encouraged exercise and health, and keeping a strong mind. Her attitude remained strong, wise, courageous and loving.
Pauline is survived by her daughter Kimberly Scudder Thompson (Derek), granddaughters Caitlin Gunkel (Drew), Landyn Freeman(Chris) and four great grandbabies on this side-Ollie, Lainey, Benjamin and Bryson. She is also survived by her son-in-law Steve Wampler and granddaughter Ashley Wampler Kirsimagi (Thomas) and great granddaughter Juniper. She is preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Linda Jumper Wampler who she mourned immensely.
A private celebration will be held at the home of her daughter with the date to be determined. Pauline was a supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital and The Shriner’s Hospital if donations would like to be made.
The Bible from Pauline that Kimberly has carried since youth quotes John 3:16-‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have life everlasting’. She wrote ‘May this little big little book guide and strengthen you always’.
Until we meet again Mom, PJ, Neena, Nonnie and GG-I know you are joined with Dad and Linda in joy in the arms of Jesus.
