Patrick John Hamill

Patrick John Hamill, 81, passed away on May 22, 2024 in Ocala, Florida. He was born on August 18,1942 in Cortland New York to the late Paul Hamill and Virginia Griffin Hamill. He was also preceded in death by his brother Paul S. Hamill.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Patricia, daughter Carol (Rob) Costabile, son Scott Hamill and granddaughter Catherine Hamill of Sarasota, Florida.

Patrick is also survived by stepdaughters Karen (Dana) Van Pelt of Seneca, South Carolina, Kim (Glen) Volyn of Liberty Lake, Washington; stepsons Michael (Ashleigh) Purcell of Winter Park, Florida and Daniel (Julie) Purcell of Jasper, Georgia, mother of his children Joan Hamill Brown of Sarasota, Florida, and sister Kathleen Stuart of Mt. Lake Park, Maryland. He leaves behind six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Mr. Hamill was raised in Groton, New York and graduated from Groton High School. He attended the University of Kentucky and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting and Economics degree as well as a Master’s of Education from Penn State University. He was employed as Business Administrator of Dryden Central School in Dryden, New York and retired as Superintendent of Schools at Port Jervis City Schools in June 2001. During his career he stayed involved with community activities and professional affiliations including Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Eagles Club, United Way, Senior Citizens, and hospital boards. He also served ten years as a Trustee and treasurer of Tompkins Cortland Community College.

Patrick and Patricia spent 24 years in retirement in Ocala Palms Golf and Country Club in Ocala, Florida. Playing golf 3 and 4 times a week Patrick was most proud of his eight holes-in-one.

Per Patrick’s wishes there will be a family gathering at a later date in Groton, New York for the burial.
