Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Martha E. Baird on June 19th, 2025, at the age of 91.
Martha was a devoted Mother and spouse. She had been battling the effects of a stroke suffered 4+ years ago with the same gusto she lived by. She passed at the Cornerstone hospice house in Summerville, Florida.
Martha was born in Port Huron, Michigan July 19th, 1933, she lived in several Michigan cities, with Ann Arbor, Michigan being primary. She moved to Florida in her later years ending up in The Villages, Florida.
She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and three nieces.
Our Mother would not want us to dwell on the above information but rather who she was. Mother was a graduate of Michigan State University in the 1950's with a BA in music. She taught music in several public schools. She loved music and could play many different instruments (French horn and Piano) being her favorites. She also had a very good voice, enjoying singing in quartets. Her interests varied. She was a very good shot with a rifle (teaching firearms safety and target shooting at a YM/YWCA).
Hands down, Mothers strong point was organization. She could organize 6 Kindy Garden classes while standing on her head (in a matter of minutes). She really was very talented in this area. She was a very good Mother, always there when needed. Let's face facts, it was not easy to raise teenagers in the late 1960's and early 1970's in Ann Arbor, Michigan (the city and University of Michigan was fondly known as the Berkeley Ca. of the mid-west). Put simply, Tommy Dorsey and his Memphis Five on one end of the house and the Rolling Stones on the other. She did a good job with Motherhood and as a grandmother. Ok, one slight downside, cooking was not her cup of tea, but we all ate fine. This was our Mother!
In closing, Mother, you will be missed!
Love your family
