Born on September 11, 1947, in Summit, New Jersey, Joe lived a life defined by innovation, creativity, humor, golf, and a deep love for his family, friends, and colleagues.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. His education became the foundation for a distinguished career marked by ingenuity, technical excellence, and a passion for solving complex challenges.
Throughout his professional life, Joe established himself as a distinguished engineer, inventor, and innovator. He was recognized as a co-inventor on numerous patents for multiple companies. His most rewarding positions before retirement were in his various leadership roles at Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc., ALPOLIC Division in Chesapeake, VA. His contributions reflected not only his engineering and business expertise but also his creative approach to improvement. While Joe's professional achievements were significant, they were only part of the story of a life exceptionally well lived.
An avid golfer, Joe cherished the enduring friendships and countless memories made on the golf course. He loved the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of the multiple golf groups he led in The Villages. His quick wit and infectious laughter made him a favorite companion both on and off the course. Joe had a remarkable ability to make people smile, and his sense of humor remained one of his most endearing qualities. He proudly recorded multiple holes-in-one throughout his golfing years and, shortly before his passing, was still achieving the impressive feat of shooting his age.
Above all else, Joe was a devoted family man. He shared a loving 57-year marriage with his wife, Sheryl Rudisi, whose unwavering partnership was the foundation of his life. He was a proud and devoted father to Stephanie McDowall and Kara Gallatin, and a caring and compassionate brother to Phil Rudisi. His love for his family was evident in all that he did, and his legacy will live on through those he cherished most.
Joe found his greatest joy in being "Pop Pop" to his cherished grandchildren, Therin McDowall, Mackenzie McDowall, Brock McDowall, and Hannah Gallatin. They brought immeasurable happiness to his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them—sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories that will be forever cherished. Joe also held a special place in his heart for his beloved dog Doodles, who brought him immense joy and companionship.
Those fortunate enough to know Joe will remember a man of exceptional intelligence, creativity, kindness, and warmth. He approached life with curiosity, generosity, and an unwavering appreciation for the people around him. Whether through his inventions, his artwork, having created hundreds of custom original pieces in retirement, his humor, or his devotion to family and friends, Joe left a lasting impact on everyone that he met.
Joe's legacy lives on through the family he loved the innovations he helped create, the friendships he nurtured, and the memories he will leave behind. Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a brilliant engineer, gifted inventor, enthusiastic golfer, talented artist, devoted husband, loving father and Pop Pop, and above all a wonderful human being.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the CVPCU and ICU nursing staff on the second floor of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. During Joe's 22 days of care, your compassion, dedication, kindness, and laughter brought comfort to both Joe and his family. The impact you made during his final days will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held in The Villages, Florida. Details are to be announced in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers and donations, the family encourages those who knew Joe to honor his memory by spending time with loved ones, sharing a laugh, enjoying a round of golf, creating something beautiful, or simply extending kindness to all others, just as Joe did throughout his life.
