It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Stanley Rouse Jr., who left this world peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 11, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Jim was a beacon of joy and creativity, leaving behind a cherished legacy in The Villages, Florida.
Jim was married to the love of his life, Diane Rouse, for 57 wonderful years. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and adventure, as they shared countless memories together, exploring both the world and each other’s hearts.
After graduating high school, Jim served briefly in the U.S. Army. Later, he excelled in various other careers, working as a Service Underwriter and Mechanic for Volkswagen in Marlow Heights, MD, becoming a Lead Exhibit Designer for the DC Gas Company, and serving as Chief Editor for the Army School of Music. Known for being a true Jack of all Trades, his diverse talents and willingness to learn made him a beloved figure among friends and family alike.
Jim was an avid boater, embracing the serene beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, and his passion for magic and entertainment led him to become a proud member of the Magician Guild in D.C. He also found joy in music, playing the guitar and ukulele, and showcased his culinary skills as a self-taught chef. A master of trick shots at the pool table, Jim knew how to entertain and put on a show, creating laughter and joy wherever he went.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane; sons, James S. Rouse III and Daniel A. Rouse; brothers, Desi, Doug, and Richard McCollum; five grandchildren, Deven, Jack, Lily, Gwen, and Viggo; one great-grandchild, Thalia; and his cherished best friend, Tom Scopp. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Jean McCollum, and step-father, Gerald Bobby McCollum.
Jim’s spirit will continue to shine through those who loved him. Services to celebrate his incredible life will be held at a future date in The Villages and in Virginia Beach, culminating in the scattering of his ashes in the Chesapeake Bay—one of his favorite places.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jim's memory to The American Cancer Society, honoring his courageous spirit and generous heart.
Jim Rouse will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
