

Harry Portis "Sonny" Fletcher, affectionately known as Sonny to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 92, in Webster, Florida. Born on October 14, 1932, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Harry E. Fletcher and Frances Portis Fletcher, Harry was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him.
Harry's life was marked by his dedication to education and service. After earning his Bachelor of Education in Mathematics from Ark State University, he became a beloved member of the Arkansas Education Association. His passion for teaching was matched only by his commitment to his community as a Volunteer Fireman in Pocahontas, AR, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and a Boy Scout Leader. Harry also proudly served his country in the Air Force and the Army National Guard, embodying a spirit of patriotism and selflessness throughout his life.
Beyond his professional and service endeavors, Harry enjoyed photography, reading, and traveling. However, his greatest passion was piloting aircraft.
Described by those who knew him as friendly, selfless, and kind, Harry's legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life and make them feel valued and appreciated. Harry's laughter was a familiar and comforting sound to his family and friends, and his guidance was sought after by many.
Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Shaw Fletcher, and his parents, Harry E. and Frances Portis Fletcher. He is survived by a loving family, including his daughters, Corinne Fletcher and Sunny Darice Rutledge; his son, Mark Harry Fletcher; three cherished grandchildren; and his brother, Lynn P. Fletcher. Each of them carries forward a piece of Harry's spirit and kindness.
Harry's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. He will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Harry Portis "Sonny" Fletcher's journey on earth may have ended, but his story will be told for generations, a narrative of a life well-lived and a heart generously shared.
