

He was born in Little York, NY to the late Paul and Bertha Hartquist in 1932.
In 1950, Gary attended The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1954 with an economics degree. In 1955 he went into the Air Force starting as a 2nd Lt and discharged with Honors as a Captain.
He joined the family business in Cortland, New York and was in the insurance agency for 42 years before his retirement. He was active in Jaycees, United Fund, Cortland Elks, Cortland Rotary Club and an active member of the Homer United Methodist Church.
Gary was the most fun loving, generous, and kind husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a very social person and enjoyed entertaining and in his later years became an excellent cook. Everyone that met him knew what a special person he was. He will be greatly missed and thought of with many wonderful stories and memories.
He was a devoted and loving husband to Carol Hartquist for 31 years before she passed away in 2014.
In addition to his parents and Carol, Gary was predeceased by his first wife Marion Pinker Hartquist.

17 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren
At Gary’s request a private memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at the family’s convenience.
