

Mr. Gary Howard Boyer died on May 13, 2026 at Oakview Park Assisted Living Facility, Greenville, SC. He was the husband of the late Joan Crawford Boyer, who died January 12, 2011. They were married for 59 years.
Born in Frederick, MD on January 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Lewis Howard and Hallie Lease Boyer.
Gary graduated from Frederick High School in 1947 and from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy on June 9, 1951. Gary and Joan were married on June 10, 1951.
Gary served in the US Army Medical Corp in Europe from 1952 - 1953. He then worked as a microbiologist for the Army at Fort Detrick for 17 years. He next served as Chief Pharmacist, Biomedical Section, Center for Studies of Narcotic Addiction & Drug Abuse, National Institute of Mental health for 2 years. His last position was as Supervisory Consumer Safety Officer with the Office of New Drug Evaluation, Food & Drug Administration.
Gary was a life long member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD. He was also a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post #11.
He enjoyed playing the trombone in high school and for many years in local community bands. He especially enjoyed playing big band and jazz music and was a member of the Frederick Community College Jazz Ensemble for many years. Other interests included gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling.
Gary and Joan enjoyed traveling for many year, especially trips to the South to visit grandchildren. They also enjoyed traveling with a trailer on two extensive trips to the western US.
He is survived by sons, David Mark Boyer and wife Julie Wilson Boyer of Lecanto, FL and Kevin Howard Boyer of Easley, SC, and grandchildren Bradley Boyer, Brianna Swaby, Kristin Mrus, Katelyn Williams, and Chloe Booth, and one great grandchild, Jetson Williams. He is also survived by a sister, Brenda Burger and husband Jack Burger of Houston, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins and godchild Teresa Foreman of Frederick, MD.
Memorial Service and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
