Eugene ("Gene") Lynn Wise, 83, passed away peacefully at home in The Villages, Florida on April 16, 2026. He was a devoted husband and father, a lifelong farmer, and a man of quiet strength whose honesty, integrity, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born July 19, 1942, in Warsaw, Indiana, Gene grew up in Silver Lake, the son of Gerald and Caroline Wise, and began working on the family farm as a child. He graduated from Silver Lake High School — and it was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara, to whom he would be married for more than 60 years.
Shortly after graduating, Gene began acquiring his own farms and spent the next four decades raising corn, soybeans, cattle, and hogs. He was a man of few words, but he was a man of great action and conviction — honest, fair, and deeply respected throughout the farming community. He farmed until his retirement in the mid 2000s, after which Gene and Barbara began spending more and more time in Florida, eventually making The Villages their permanent home. A testament to the legacy he built, the family farm remains in operation today, carried on by his daughter Michelle and her family.
Gene proudly served his country in the Indiana National Guard. He was also a faithful member of Center United Methodist Church in Silver Lake, where his faith quietly guided everything he did.
Above all else, Gene was a family man. He was a devoted and loving husband to Barbara, and a dedicated father to his three children, Michelle Little, Melissa Wise, and Brian Wise. In addition to his wife and children, he leaves behind son-in-law Kent Little, daughter-in-law Kelly Wise, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who adored him and will carry his memory with them. He is also survived by his three sisters, Nancy Amiss, Connie Hutchinson, and Jo Anne Stoppenhagen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Caroline Wise.
Services
Gene will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2026. Details will be announced as they are finalized.
