Cynthia (Cindy) Mixa Beckendorf passed away peacefully in her home in Leesburg, Florida on June 16, 2026. Born on December 4, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Carl and Margaret Mixa, Cynthia grew up in East Detroit attending St. Peter’s Lutheran School and graduating from East Detroit High School.
Cynthia married Otto Beckendorf on August 25, 1962. They raised two sons, Douglas Beckendorf and Jeffery Beckendorf. Otto’s work provided them with the opportunity to live in various states. While Cindy had several positions over the years, her primary profession was as a wife and mother. Cynthia was always active in the Lutheran churches where she lived and was a very good homemaker and mother.
Retirement brought she and Otto to Leesburg, Florida where they were very active in the Highland Lakes Community. Initially, they enjoyed traveling and taking various trips around the country. She also enjoyed visits with her grandchildren Erica Beckendorf and Ryan Beckendorf.
Cynthia’s yard was very special to her. Even when she wasn’t going into the yard regularly, she was excited to see various flowers blooming. While she was less active these past few years, she was still strong in her faith and was a dedicated member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Leesburg, Florida.
She was predeceased by her father, Carl Mixa, mother Margaret Mixa and husband Otto Beckendorf. She is survived by her brother, Richard Mixa (Charlene) of Oldsmar, Florida, her son Douglas Beckendorf (Clare) and grandchildren Erica and Ryan of Tallahassee, Florida and son Jeffery Beckendorf of Royal Oak, Michigan.
The family would like to thank Elena and Gaitrie for the care and compassion they showed in her final days.
A private service is being held for family on July 3, 2026, at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her honor to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 28215 US-27, Leesburg, FL 34748 or Susan G. Komen in the fight to end Breast Cancer.
