Betty Moir was part of a seagoing family in Australia. She was born in March of 1918. She grew up within a few blocks of the ocean, within sound of the ocean.
Betty worked in the office of an international cargo and passenger shipping company in Newcastle. During World War II Betty and a good friend agreed to blind dates with two Yanks from the US Army.
Betty looked at the Yanks and said “I’ll take the short one.” Betty’s date was Lawrence Price of Cadott, Wis. Lawrence insisted she could not get home without his escort. Betty and her good friend married their respective Yanks. Both were lifetime marriages. (World War II glue was good). Betty and Lawrence were married while he was on leave awaiting combat orders. The orders took him to islands in the Pacific and New Guinea. They had an extensive separation.
Betty arranged travel to the States via a ship belonging to her employer. Later Lawrence returned to the States by troop ship. They moved to Cadott, Wisconsin. Betty who had never seen snow or spent much time away from the ocean made Cadott their home. They owned and ran the Cadott Chicken Hatchery and a farm. They raised five children. Both had other employments. They in common with everyone else in the Cadott area did not know work ended in 40 hours. They retired in their 70s and moved to The Woodlands, Texas and later to Leesburg FL.
Betty and Lawrence traveled to Australia, and England. Wherever they went they played bridge and made good friends. Lawrence came from a family where the men historically died young; accordingly, he only promised Betty marriage until he reached his 60s. He made it to 99 years.
Betty Price’s last few years were spent in assisted living at Lakeport Square in Leesburg, Florida. The care, kindness, hugs and kisses she received from the staff at Lakeport were amazing.
Betty leaves behind children, or grandchildren or great grandchildren in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Her ashes will be placed next to her husband’s in the Cadott Cemetery sometime in the future.
