Tommy G Landon

Tommy Gene Landon passed away on May 4, 2021 in Venice, Florida at the age of 87. He was born on March 14, 1934 to Wesley and Thelma Landon. He was married to Marilyn Huffine Landon for 60 years before her passing. She was his soul mate and their love for each other will never be forgotten. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, uncle, grandpa and great grandpa.

His is survived by his sons, Tim, Jeff (Torrie), Mike (Kim) Landon and his daughter Susie (Scott) Kirk; eight grand kids, Kyle Landon, Jennifer Gressel, Nicole Landon, Morgan Kirk, Maddi Landon, Lucas Landon, Dylan Kirk and Tess Landon; five great grandkids Lyza, Levi, Zaiden, Kolson and Silas.

He was employed at Western Electric before retiring after 30 years. He always had a strong work ethic to provide for his family and this was admired. Whether starting out with three jobs through his many promotions with Western Electric, he was determined, all for the sake of his family.

Tommy served at Fort Brag, NC from March 12, 1954 to March 9, 1956 receiving a National Defense Service Medal. He was a student at Butler University when called to serve his country. Tommy enjoyed his cars; they never met a better owner. He kept them in pristine condition which led to his passion with his sons and his father in racing. It was a family affair many weekends to travel with his family to the race tracks. Tommy worked for UPI at the Indy 500 for several years. Anything he and our mom would be involved in was always a family event. Family was our parents’ world, from their parents (our grandparents) to our Aunt Janet to all of our aunts and uncles and many, many cousins.

The family will have a private gathering to honor our parents. We would like to give thanks to Harbor Inn, 321 Harbor Drive South, Venice, FL 34275, the assisted living facility to which we owe our greatest gratitude. They were a godsend in helping with our dad’s care. To offer sympathy during this difficult time, donations can be made to Harbor Inn in our dad’s name.
