

Sonia Y. Torres was born June 24, 1939, in Milagro, Ecuador. She lived a happy active life with her siblings and adored her parents and her faith in the church. She enjoyed swimming, riding bikes and dancing.
Sonia met Jose, her husband, at a dance and that was the beginning of their love story. Married August 15, 1957, Sonia had 2 daughters before moving to America to seek a life of opportunity filled with grace and strength. Sonia built a life filled with love and devotion. Sonia lived the American dream.
On December 11, 2025, Sonia passed away peacefully at her home in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 86. Sonia leaves behind her beloved husband of 68 years, Jose Torres; her five children—Monica, Sonia, Carla, Jose and Charles; her 6 cherished grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and her dear sister, Sally and brother Carlos.
Sonia was immensely proud of her children, especially her sons who served honorably in the Air Force and Navy. She loved cooking, spending time with her family, long drives, music, dancing and found joy in her faith and passion for the church; the Virgin Mary was a powerful force in her life. Sonia’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A piece of our hearts has gone with her. May she rest in eternal peace until we meet again.
