

Bob was born on May 10, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to George H. and Nina (Austin) Noble. He was later adopted by Elvin T. and Evelyn Thomas Gandy. Bob was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean War. After his service, Bob went to college and law school on the G.I. Bill. After a brief stint as a special agent in the FBI, Bob settled in DuQuoin, IL and practiced law for 25 years. He served one term as Perry County State’s Attorney. In 1988, Bob became Perry County Resident Circuit Judge, and served in that position until 1995.
On April 9, 1955, Bob married Barbara McBride. Bob and Barb were happily married for 54 years. Barb provided Bob with much support, from law school until her death in 2009. Three children were born to Bob and Barb: Janet (Ralph) Fowler of Louisville, IL; Patricia of Sanger, TX; and Robert Brian (Mary) of Swansea, IL.
Bob is survived by his three children, three grandchildren: Perry (Kathryn) Lopez; Briana Lopez (companion Vince); and Maxwell Gandy; and one great-grandchild, Henry Leon Lopez. Bob is also survived by his longtime companion, Christine Klein, who provided much love and support to Bob in his later years.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, and one grandchild, Emily Fowler.
Bob had a remarkable life. Through hard work and determination, Bob overcame his humble origins and became an exceptional attorney and jurist. Bob earned the love and respect of his family and a large circle of friends. He was a warm and generous man with a great sense of humor. Bob was also an avid golfer, and one of the highlights of his life was to attend the Masters with Christine.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial gathering will take place at the Palm Aire Country Club clubhouse on September 10, 2024 at noon. Donations in Bob’s name may be made to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
