He is survived by his children, Richard Marentette of Northville, Michigan, Anne Martin (Pat) of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and Tom (Tonya) Marentette of South Bend, Indiana.
He is survived by his three grandchildren, Sarah (Emeka) Onukegbe, Liz (Ryan) Adamson, and Olivia Marentette; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Kinsley, Colin, Cameron, and Hudson; and his wife, Janice (Loose) Marentette of Venice, Florida.
Dick lived an amazing life, focused on supporting family, fostering his faith, and advancing his career to provide for his family. While he was born in Windsor, the family moved to Detroit in the late 1930’s. He attended Precious Blood Parish and school, then went on to attend Detroit Catholic Central High School (class of 1955), where he excelled academically and on the track, breaking many running records, which were held years after leaving high school. Dick briefly attended the University of Michigan, before joining the US Army. He was proud to serve his country and cherished his time in the Army. While living in Europe, he was fortunate to see many of the famous sites, including the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. Some of his travels involved touring in his Austin Healey.
After serving in the Army, Dick returned to Detroit where he attended the University of Detroit, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Soon after he met the love of his life, Joanne Agnes Anderson. They married in January 1962 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dick and Joanne had three beautiful children and moved to Livonia in 1970, where they raised their family. Dick served at various times on boards at St. Edith Catholic Church and the Livonia Junior Football League, coached basketball, and served with Rotary and Kiwanis... always looking for ways to improve the community around him. In the late 1970s Dick became an avid runner, usually up before dawn to get in 10-12 miles before work. His running took him across Michigan and the US, even running the Detroit Free Press Marathon in 1979. Dick also loved attending and watching University of Michigan Football - usually with a great sandwich and a cold beer!
Dick worked at Detroit Bank and Trust (now Comerica) for over 40 years, starting as a teller and progressing to a Branch Manager, at several locations in metro-Detroit. Dick retired from Comerica Bank in 1997, followed shortly after by Joanne. Dick and Joanne eventually settled in Sarasota, Florida after they both retired. They enjoyed many wonderful years of golf, visiting with friends, great meals, and hosting kids and grandkids.
After the death of his beloved Joanne, he married Janice Loose, of Sarasota, Florida in 2015. They spent several years together in Venice, Florida, traveling together, before he transitioned into Assisted Living.
The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and staff at Cadbury Park Memory Care for their exceptional support and care over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online at alz.org
