Nancy Eunice Checchia

In her early years, Nancy married and started a family, welcoming her son, John Checchia Jr. She had a natural gift for numbers and spent many years working in accounting in the Triple Cities area, notably with Amphenol and Willow Point Nursing Home.

In the late 1980s, Nancy met Richard “Dick” Berry, who lived in Vestal and spent his winters in Sarasota, Florida. Drawn to the idea of year-round sunshine, she moved to Sarasota in 2000 and made her home on Siesta Key for many years. During that time, she worked in finance and accounting for the Girl Scouts of Gulf Coast Florida, served as treasurer of the Provincial Garden Condominium Association board, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Sarasota. Nancy served on the Perpetual Care Foundation and as Treasurer of the Pineapple Antique Show for many years for the church. After retirement, she loved to travel, most enthusiastically to Paris; she loved all things French. She especially enjoyed spending time on Siesta Key Beach with Dick's grandsons, Nathan and Corey. After Dick passed away in 2021, Nancy moved to Alderman Oaks in downtown Sarasota.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Miller; nephews Frank (Janice) Miller, Jeff (Cheryl) Miller, and John Miller; nieces Janice (Mark) Coleman, Cindy Moriarty, and Debbie Walker; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and Dick's family, including Elizabeth “Beth” Berry and Ann (Michael) Amyot and their sons, Nathan and Corey.

Nancy was preceded in death by her son, John Checchia Jr.; her parents, Alvin and Myrtle Miller; her brothers, Frank Miller and Alvin Miller Jr.; her sister-in-law, Ellen Miller; her nephew, Clark Miller; and her longtime companion, Richard Berry.

A gathering of her friends is planned for Thursday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Alderman Oaks, 727 Hudson Ave, Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory may be made to First United Methodist Church of Sarasota, 104 S Pineapple Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236.
