Michael Andrew Foust was born on December 26, 1946. He died on April 4, 2025, at age 78, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. Michael began life on a farm in Sweetser, Indiana. He entered the military after High School, serving as an Air Force sergeant in communications. After a tour of duty in Vietnam, he mustered out and backpacked through Europe before returning to finish a business degree at Indiana University.
Not wanting to be trapped behind a desk, Michael worked as a successful sales representative for Gulf Corporation and Dictaphone, an independent sales contractor in business, and an insurance inspector for several insurance companies over the years. This allowed him to do the diverse things he loved. During different periods of his life, he traveled to four continents, raced production cars for the Sports Car Club of America, and studied architecture. He loved Classical, bluegrass, and gospel music and played guitar. He created puppets and works of stained glass. He enjoyed learning about ancient civilizations and Biblical creationism, which he credited to strengthening his faith. In retirement, he golfed, renovated his home, and volunteered with the EAA Young Eagles, a club that introduces young people to the joys of flying and building light aircraft.
Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Armenta Lee, his mother, Ida Mae Smethers Foust, and his father, Harold Leland Foust. He leaves behind his sister, Roiann Foust Backstrom, her husband and family, his brother, Joseph William Foust, and his wife of 4o years, Evelyn Birky Foust.
His family and friends will miss Michael. They laughed or groaned at his bad puns and listened as he regaled them with tales of travel, history, and cars. He was a bright and kind man—a man of integrity. He physically cared for and sacrificed for his family. He held his wife’s hand the day they were married, and he was holding it when he passed away. He loved well, and he was loved.
Michael’s favorite Bible verse was Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord has made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
