Mary P. Lake

Daughter of Helen and Howard R. Patch, Mary attended Smith College until marrying Charles Coit in 1944. They raised their six children in Massachusetts until his death from cancer in 1960. Married to Wendell Lake in 1968 and following his death in 1975, she moved to Sarasota for her love of ocean, beaches, and sailing. She enjoyed activities of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, and the Smith and Harvard Clubs.

Member of the Daughters of the King at St. Wilfrid's Church, and became Roman Catholic in 2009.

She is survived by her six children, Priscilla Coit Murphy of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Stephen Coit of Cambridge, Mass.; Philip Coit of New Port Richey, Fla.; Elizabeth Coit of Arlington, Va.; Richard Coit of South Boston, Mass.; and Robert Coit of Harvard, Mass. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Nicholas Murphy of Watertown, Mass.; Emily Coit of Princeton, N.J.; Margaret Coit and Susanna Coit, both of Boston; Geoffrey Coit and David Coit of Harvard, Mass.; and Rachel Coit of Asheville, N.C.

A funeral mass will be held at Incarnation Church, 2929 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota, FL 34239 at 9:30a.m. on Jan. 28, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Sisters of St. Anne, Bethany House, Bethany Convent, 25 Hillside Avenue, Arlington MA 02476-5818
