Martha Ivey Mead

Martha Ivey Mead of Sarasota, Florida passed away on January 16, 2023 surrounded by her family at home, at the age of 91 years young. The funeral service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church on February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am. Reverend Dr. Jaime Faberlle will officiate. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the National Cremation Society.

Martha was born in Sarasota on July 21, 1931, and later graduated from Sarasota High School. Martha served as a switchboard operator for General Telephone Company, now known as Verizon, for 30 years. She enjoyed family, traveling, shopping, and reading her mystery books. She was also actively involved in her church. Her responsibilities included checking children in and out of the nursery, transporting children in the church van from their schools to Wednesday family night, handling money, and playing bells in the church choir.

Martha is survived by her children, John Mead, Jim Mead, and Cecilia Braden (Bruce), four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, F. F. Ivey and Cecilia R. Ivey, and her brothers, James F. Ivey and A.C. (Buddy) Ivey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. John's United Methodist Church or the Tidewell Foundation. The family of Martha Mead wishes to thank Tidewell Hospice for the love and care they have shown throughout the final months of her life.
