A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 13 at the Venice Art Center in Venice, Florida. Funeral services and the burial of his ashes will be held in Spain, where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Encarnita.
Joe was born in Cashton, Wisconsin, on May 23, 1929. He left home at an early age to join the circus.
Joe married Encarnita Llaguno on a beautiful day in September 1957. They shared 50 wonderful years of marriage until her passing.
He was recruited by the legendary Wallenda Family to perform with their troupe as part of the famous pyramid act. Entertaining audiences became his calling. His success continued to grow as he created the high-wire duo Mendez & Seitz which performed around the world. Ultimately, he became a headliner as a solo artist, captivating crowds with a unique combination of comedy, skill, and daring on the wire.
Later in life, when he was no longer able to continue performing, he transformed program sales into a performance of its own. His true gift was making people feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. He touched countless lives with his positivity, kindness, and enthusiasm.
Joe is survived by his children, sister, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife and brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, World Central Kitchen, or a local food pantry.
