John C. Merkel of Sarasota, Fl passed on Monday, September 21, 2026. John was born on April 22, 1952, in Rochester, NY. He was pre-deceased by his parents Bernadette M. Merkel and John J. Merkel. Survived by his sister and wife. John was known to the art community in Sarasota as
“The Great Carlini.”
Outside of his crazy antics, He was best known for his 2-D/3-D kinetic art works. These were known to Include sound, light and movement in synchronic patterns merging 2d with 3d synergy. On the more practical side, he had designed many of the outdoor lighting structures on our downtown condos. He lived in the Sarasota area since the mid 1990s.
