John Daniel Hackemer Jr., 80, of Sarasota, Florida, went to be with the Lord and his family in heaven on February 26, 2026. A devoted husband, cherished father, loving grandfather and great grandfather, proud brother and son, and loyal friend, “Papa John” was best known for his big heart and giving spirit, with his faith in Jesus guiding his every step. An avid fisherman, John spent countless hours on the water, sharing fishing poles and stories with friends old and new.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy; his children, Roxanne (Jeff), Paula, Jody, John (Morgan), and Catherine; his siblings, Bessie, Eugene, Darlene, and Patricia; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son, James; his parents, John and Bernice; and his siblings, Shirley, Janet, Niecy, Donna, Barbara, Diana, Billy, and Christine.
Though his body grew tired, his faith never wavered, and his love will remain with us always.
A service will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 9:30 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Clubhouse at Park East Club in Sarasota.
