He attended local schools in Hinsdale and Dalton, MA before graduating high school in 1977. He then worked at EB Shipyard before beginning his lifelong work as a carpenter. His professional career included finish and restoration work on historical houses to authenticate them to that time period.
On June 25, 1981, Joel married the love of his life, Sandy. They had their first child, Jason in 1984 and completed their family with their second son, Greg in 1986. They raised their boys in Hinsdale, MA before moving to Cape Coral, FL in 2005.
In 2016, they settled in Venice, FL, where they lived for the remainder of his life. He loved going on walks with Sandy and his beloved dog, Sir. They were blessed to find wonderful community at Florida Bible Church in Englewood.
Joel loved fishing, hunting, collecting, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family. He was a real renaissance man and knew how to fix anything and everything. If he didn't know, he would figure it out, and proudly passed those skills on to his sons.
Joel was predeceased in death by his parents Fay and Arthur, and his brother Mark.
He is survived by his wife Sandy of Venice, FL, his sons Jason of Westfield, MA, and Greg and wife Abigail of Castle Hayne, NC. He was deeply loved by his family and will be missed tremendously.
A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ronald McDonald House in Joel's memory.
