Joan Priscilla Marks Hudson

Joan Priscilla Marks Hudson passed peacefully at her home in Arcadia, FL on August 11, 2026, at 1:19 p.m. in the loving arms of her husband, Terry, surrounded by her hospice caregivers, private caregivers, and her stepdaughter, Paige.

Joan was born on July 8, 1942, in Binghamton, NY and was raised in Deposit, NY, by her parents, Albert S. Marks and Elizabeth A. Matteson Marks.

Education was an important part of Joan's life, both as a student and as an educator. She graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam, earning two master's degrees in English and History. She went on to serve as a professor at the university before beginning a long and dedicated career in public education.

Joan devoted more the 30 years to the Warwick Valley School District, teaching History at Warwick Valley Middle School. She touched the lives of generations of students before retiring after more than three decades of service.

Joan was a woman of many talents and interests. A natural multitasker, she had a deep appreciation for music and the fine arts and loved expressing her creativity in many ways. She was an accomplished cook, a talented crafter, and an avid reader. Of all the pastines, reading was her favorite.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Terry D. Hudson; her stepdaughter, Alicia Paige Hudson; and her granddaughters, Anna Savchuk and Lindsey Savchak.

She is also survived by her sister, Sue Pierce, and Sue's children, Chris Pierce and his wife, Heather; Mark Pierce; and Melissa Pierce and her husband, Julien Laussu, along with many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews; and her sister, Nancy Bishop, and Nancy's husband, Jonathan Bishop.

Joan will be remembered as a beloved wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and dedicated teacher. Her life was marked by her love of family, her passion for education, her creativity, and the countless lives she influences throughout her many years in the classroom.

Her love of books became such a special part of her relationship with her grandchildren that they affectionately called her " Grandma Read-a-Book."

Her lessons will live on in the students she taught, the stories she shared will live on in the children who knew her as "Grandma Read-a-Book," and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
