Born on a dairy farm to Dale and Bertha Sherrard, Flo worked with her sisters and parents with the cows, sheep, pigs and chickens and a team of mules. Her Christian beliefs helped them through the Great Depression era. Along with a big garden, Flo enjoyed canning. Her high school years found Flo to be a part of the Greatest Generation. Flo’s intestinal fortitude helped her navigate through WW2. Flo then enrolled in college at Bowling Green University where she met her husband, Elmer H. McGilvray. Flo received her degree and started her career as an elementary teacher and married Mac in 1950.
They worked hard and together had 5 children: Craig B., (Jeanine) Mark S., James B., (Kim) Bethann, (Mike) and Barry C., (Deanna) McGilvray. The early 70’s Flo and Mac left Middleburg Hts., Ohio and moved to Sarasota, Florida where she taught school for over 20 years. Mac had an appliance store and they both were devout Christians. Flo also gave her time after retirement to Mothers Helping Mothers.
She always displayed kindness and concern for others. She is so loved and will be missed by all. There is a special place in heaven for Florence.
Flo is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Ryan McGilvray (Anna), Jenna Kuschmeader ( Ryan), Karissa McEnroe ( Kyle), Jarrid Sherrard, Jordan Chaplinsky (Jess), Brennan McGilvray , Lindsey Carlberg (Marcus), Garrett Chaplinsky, Jessica Garn (Jay) and nine great grandchildren. Along with meeting our Lord and Savior, she is reunited with her beloved Mac and son Mark.
