Elizabeth Armour, 88, of Venice, Florida, passed away on March 4, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her husband Laurence and is survived by son Jim and his wife Fonda of St. Stephens, Alabama; son Mark and his wife Jane of Corvallis, Oregon; daughter Jeanne of Sarasota; sister-in-law Jackie of Sarasota; grandchildren Michael, Spencer, Maya, Hallie, and Drew; and great-grandchildren McKinley, Ellie and Rowan.
Liz was born to Aubrey and Agnes Brown in Lynn, Massachusetts, on November 20, 1937. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Lynn with her parents, her sister Norma, and friendships she would maintain for the rest of her life. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School and had a long and rewarding work life as a secretary, teacher’s aide, and hospital administrator.
Liz married Larry in 1958 and their devoted 66-year partnership could stand as a model for a loving marriage. Larry spent the rest of his life telling everyone how lucky he was to have found Liz, and the truth is that they were both very lucky. Liz was responsible for much of their social life and friends, many of whom stuck for many years. Their trips with Roger and Judy Armstrong over many decades led to joy and laughter for all four of them.
While living in Connecticut, Larry and Liz raised three children who admired and loved their parents. As a full-time Mom for her kids’ earliest years, Liz taught them to read, kept them fed, fixed their skinned knees, and provided the necessary hugs. She was known and liked by all her kids’ friends, and often gathered groups together for card games at the dining room table. She was whip smart, an avid reader, and did crossword puzzles until the very end of her life. Her sense of humor was a delightful prize that she hopefully passed on to her kids.
With their children raised, Liz and Larry moved to Mobile, Alabama, in 1980. As lifelong Episcopalians, Liz and Larry were heavily involved with the Church of the Redeemer—Liz sang in the choir and helped plan their new building. She worked at Providence Hospital for 20 years, and her many friends and activities kept them both busy.
In 2000 they both retired and moved to Venice, Florida. In Venice, Larry and Liz joined the Church of the Good Shephard (Liz singing in the choir again), picked up many more friends, and became volunteers at Venice Hospital. Throughout her full life, Liz was never happier than with her very grateful family.
There will be a service at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Friday, April 10, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Liz’s name.
