

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Hal Richards and Rachel Jane (Howard) Richards. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Oglesby Richards, whom he married on May 23, 1970. Dave deeply appreciated the life they built together and often reflected on how well-suited they were for one another. Their marriage was marked by enduring companionship, mutual respect, and a shared understanding that carried them through the years.
He is also survived by his twin daughters, Renee Lynn Kallenberger and Cara Sue Nicklas (husband Tim). Dave was a proud grandfather to Tara Michelle Kallenberger, Connor James Nicklas (wife Michelle), and Evan Hal Nicklas, and a great-grandfather to Isla Clare Nicklas and Eva Jean Nicklas. He is further survived by his sisters, Regina Pound and Ellen Pettey (husband Gordon). Dave deeply valued time spent with his extended family, creating lasting memories filled with games, music, warmth and laughter.
A graduate of Eastern High School in Louisville, Class of 1958, Dave went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Louisville. During his service in the United States Air Force, he furthered his education by studying meteorology at the University of Oklahoma.
Dave had a natural curiosity and a love for building and creating. He built many houses, remodeled his daughters’ houses, and even built a treehouse for his grandsons. He also had a lifelong fascination with the weather. Above all, music was his greatest passion. While living in Louisville, he was a dedicated member of the Motet Singers. After relocating to Sarasota, Florida, Dave discovered a love for barbershop harmony as a member of the Chorus of the Keys and several quartets.
Dave will be remembered for his genuine interest in people, his inquisitive mind, and the legacy of music he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
