
Jack (Dale) L. Vendeland, age 83, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on September 7, 2018. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on November 10, 2018 4pm-6pm at Waldemere Fire Station 2070 Waldemere Street, Sarasota, Florida. Come and share your favorite stories and anecdotes about Jack.
Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Glenville High School in 1953, he entered a five year apprenticeship program and became a licensed plumber. In 1958 he married Roslynn (Lynn) Sampliner. During their 15 years of marriage they had three children, Audrey (Paul) Baker, Mike (Cindy) Vendeland and Bonnie (Jim) Smorado.
In 1976 he met Linda Knopf at Parents Without Partners and in 1980 they were married. They loved world travel, wine tasting, theatre and visiting with family that also included Linda’s three children Simon (Cheryl) Knopf, Karen (Steve) McIntire, Cindy (Darin) Blood. Collectively Jack and Linda have thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. They were married 38 years at the time of his passing.
Jack recently received his 65-year pin from Plumber’s Union Local 55 in Cleveland. His career took him to New York City where he worked on the World Trade Center. He was a long-time employee at Reliance Mechanical and in 1996 he retired from University Hospitals. After relocating to Sarasota, Florida in March 1998, Jack and Linda were involved in the Russian Resettlement program associated with Jewish Family and Children’s Services. They also joined the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism and the Friendship Force Club of Sarasota. For the past 15 years Jack thoroughly enjoyed tutoring math for Ms. Cohen’s sixth grade class at Booker Middle School.
