Dr. Clifford Smith passed away December 10, 2024. Cliff grew up on Nantucket and worked as a commercial fisherman and street sweeper when he was young. Cliff married Judith Brown in 1976. Cliff and Judy had a daughter, Jenie and Cliff became the stepfather of Judy's two children Jeff and Jeanna. Cliff moved to Florida and went back to school earning his PhD in Archeology with a focus on historical conservation. Cliff spent many years working for the Bermudia Maritime Museum. Research conducted by Cliff brought to life previously unknown Bermudian history. Clif pioneered new conservation techniques consulting and lecturing all over the world.
After Judy passed away, Cliff found new love marrying Piyanat Oudee, in 2016, and adopting her 3 children.
For the last 18 years, Cliff worked for the City of Sarasota in planning and historic preservation earning Sarasota both state and national awards.
Cliff was passionate about classic cars, good food, travel, and family. Cliff lived a rich and accomplished life. He is survived by his wife Piyanat Smith and his adopted children Chris, Emily, and Pear; daughter Dr. Jenie Smith and her children Devon and Jaden; stepchildren Jeff Watson and Jeanna Balazs; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
