Maria de Jesus Devora

She was born on December 1, 1949 in El Paso, Texas to Rodolfo Ornelas and Anastacia Rios Ornelas. As a child, Maria grew up in Cd. Juarez, Mexico, later moving to El Paso, Texas where she spent most of her adult life. In her later years, she moved to San Antonio, Texas to be closer to her daughters and their families. She also enjoyed traveling to Alaska frequently to spend time with her son and his family. Maria attended Jesus and Mary High School in El Paso, Texas and later earned her Associates degree in Medical Billing and Coding from El Paso Community College.

Maria is survived by her ex husband, Alberto Devora who was instrumental in her final care, her children Gabriela Devora (Matt) Rukavina of Houston, Texas, Alberto (Allison) Devora of Eagle River, Alaska, Alexandra Devora (Adam) Arevalos of San Antonio, Texas, her brother Victor Manuel (Paty) Ornelas, and her grandchildren Michael Ryan Schultheis, Adam Andres Arevalos, Emilia Ann Rukavina, Julian Alejandro Arevalos, Annabelle Maire Devora, Matthew Branko Rukavina, and Albert Joseph Devora. She is preceded in death by her parents Rodolfo Ornelas and Anastacia Rios Ornelas, and her brother Hector Rodolfo Ornelas.

Maria was a devoted mother who poured her love into raising her three children, Gabriela Devora Rukavina, Alberto Devora, Alexandra Devora Arevalos. She was not only a mother to her own children but also to all who knew her, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. Maria’s unwavering belief in the potential of her loved ones, family or not, fueled their drive to succeed and never give up. Her life was a testament to selflessness, as she devoted every moment to nurturing and uplifting everyone she loved. Maria’s legacy of love and perseverance will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Services to honor her memory will be held on June 29, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Seminary 4601 Hastings Dr. El Paso, Texas. Rosary will be at 9:00, followed by Mass at 10:00. A celebration of life gathering will be held at noon at Los Bandidos De Carlos & Mickey’s: 1310 Magruder St. El Paso, Texas.
