

Survivors include his wife, Lucia Jasso; daughters, Sylvia Ann Barton and Tommie Jasso; grandchildren, Meaghan Craig, Tristian Barton, Georgia Craig and John Pepper Barton. His brothers and sisters preceded him in death: Helen Cortez, Joe Jaso, Eva Gonzales, Belinda Medellin, and Wally Jaso. Rosie Guerra, Alice Jaso and Robert Jaso.
Edward was born on January 19, 1948 in Floresville, Texas to Mr. Rogelio Garcia Jaso and Mrs. Elena Valadez Jaso. He grew up in O’Donnall. Texas where he attended school then moved to San Antonio, Texas. He married Lucia Oropeza in 1967. They were happily married for 55 years. Edward and Lucia have two daughters, Sylvia and Tommie.
Edward was drafted into the Army in 1967. He did his basic and infantry training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Airborne Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Edward was deployed to Vietnam in 1968 where he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade for a year then returned to Fort Eustis, Virginia as a training NCO in (USATSCH) transportation school. He took a short break from the military to catch up on his education. He received his GED from Edgewood HS in San Antonio, Texas. Attended San Antonio Technical College and received a certificate in architecture; attended St. Phillip’s College and received a degree in Automotive Technology and the University of Texas El Paso, where he studied political science and the History of the Southwest. He also worked for a small company while getting his education.
Edward joined the US Army Reserve to continue his military career. In 1990 to 1991, he was deployed to Kuwait (Desert Storm) and in 2006 to 2007; he was deployed to Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom.) In 2010, Edward retired from the military.
In Edwards long military career, he traveled to many countries, attended many NCO schools that included Sergeant Major Academy in 2000. Edward was awarded many decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons which are following: Meritorious Service Medal//Air Medal with V device//Army Commendation Medal//Army Achievement Medal// Army Superior Unit 3rd Award//Army Good Conduct Medal//National Defense Medal with Bronze Star//South West Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars//Global War on Terrorism Service Medal//Army Service Ribbon//Overseas Service Ribbon//Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/M Devise//Army Forces Reserve Medal with 20 years Device//Air Borne Wings// Combat Infantry BSt. Jude'sadge//Purple Heart.
Edward always said that he had no regrets; he lived his life the way he wanted. He was a little disappointed that his retirement did not work the way he thought it would, but he said, “My life was a vacation and I enjoyed it.” Edward’s wife used to tell him “You change your mind too much.” His response was “I have to make adjustments with little money and time to make it work.” Edward’s only concern was to make sure that his family was taken care of at the end.
Funeral services will be scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 16th at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9908-9974 I-37 Access Rd, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests plants, plant a tree or a memorial to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
