Major Dale Lynn Bauer, retired, passed away during the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was 80 years old. He had endured several years of dementia/Alzheimer’s diseases.
Dale was born on September 29, 1944 in Blair, Nebraska. At the age of 10, his family moved to Englewood, Colorado. He graduated from Englewood High School.
In 1964, he enlisted with the Colorado Air National Guard from September 1964 to May 1983, where he became an Air Force Military Policeman. In 1968, he was recalled for a year to active duty during the Pueblo Crisis in South Korea. Dale received a direct commission as a Captain after 15 years of enlistment at the rank of E-7 in November 1980.
While raising a family of three children with his first wife, with two sons, Del Shannon Bauer and Dustin Dean Bauer, and daughter, Jonnie Lynn Bauer (Wheeler); Dale went on to Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement (Magna Cum Laude).
Dale married Gracia Bautista Marquez in Honolulu on May 13, 1989. Then in June 1989, they moved with his stepchildren Irene Marquez Valenzuela (Tucker) and Albert Marquez Valenzuela to Clark Air Base, Philippines. In June 1991, Mt Pinatubo Volcano, which had been dormant for over 600 years, decided to erupt in time for the end of the 99-year lease between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America, which resulted in US base closures.
As a result of reorganizations within the Department of Defense (DoD), Dale was a part of the few handpicked personnel to open the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Midwest Region at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado from 1991 to 1994.
After a few more rounds of reorganizations, Dale was assigned to Headquarters, DeCA at Kelly USA in San Antonio, Texas as DeCA’s Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer. He facilitated, developed, and conducted multiple training programs. He also maintained cooperation with military, governmental and other agencies. He also managed the fraud, waste, theft, and abuse investigations and expertly cooperated with local, military, and federal enforcements.
Dale retired after 33 years from Civil Service. From October 2002 to April 2004, Dale worked as Team Leader and Security Staff Officer for San Antonio Water System (SAWS); he was responsible for the development and oversight of security operations. He developed security strategies to comply or exceed company and EPA requirements. He volunteered to assist in the operational transition as temporary Chief of Security. With the combination of years with Civil Service, Military Service and SAWS tenure, Dale retired once again.
In April 2004 to October 2005, Dale decided to work from home and was hired by Computer Sciences Corporation. He was a Security Adjudicator and Personnel Adjudicator with direct responsibility for determination of DoD security clearances for all applications processed. He was the leader in reviewing comprehensive written background investigations with strict governmental guidelines (Personnel Security Standards and Procedures; CIA directive 6/4); facilitated recommendations for security clearances or non-clearances. He was knowledgeable in all aspects of comprehensive, high-level background investigation techniques.
After 18 months of experiencing work at home, he decided it was time to completely retire but, that was just for a fleeting moment (literally) when the phone rang…SAWS (calling) wanted him to come back and work for them again from 2005 to 2012.
Dale is a Board Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with the American Society for Industrial Security, Washington D.C.”
