

Paul Francis Malatesta of Pennington, NJ, passed away suddenly on Friday October 13, 2017 in Apollo Beach, FL, where he was visiting his mother. Paul was born on June 12, 1947, in Charleston, SC, where his father was stationed following WWII. He grew up mostly in Wilmington, MA, but spent time in his youth in the South Pacific. Paul graduated from Michigan State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree and also his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Paul spent 20 years as Director of the Vivarium and Associate Professor of Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ, and also worked at Merck, Sharpe and Dohme in Rahway, NJ, for many years. Paul was an avid golfer and fisherman, and he enjoyed sharing these pastimes with his grandchildren. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen A. Malatesta; his mother, Mary R. Malatesta; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Elizabeth Malatesta; his stepdaughter and her husband, Courtney and Michael Golisano; and five beloved grandchildren: Connor, Tyler, Evan, Alexander and Caitlin. He also leaves behind a nephew and niece-in-law, Craig and Carrie Malatesta and their son Peter as well as numerous cousins. Paul is pre-deceased by his father, Charles E. Malatesta and his brother, Peter E. Malatesta. A Memorial Gathering will be held in Paul’s memory on Sunday, November 5, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Wellington Manor Clubhouse, 8 Lexington Drive, Pennington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or to Mercer Oaks Golf Club (www.golfmercercounty.com/mountain-view/mercer-oaks) in Lawrence, NJ.
