

John Frank Werner Jr., age 79, of Brandon, Florida crossed the river to rest in the shade of the trees on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was born on July 6, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to John F. and Anna May (Strousse) Werner. He grew up in the Glen Burnie, Maryland area. His roots can be traced back to the early settlers of Southern Maryland and Jamestown, Virginia. He was an alumnus of St. Petersburg (Junior) College and University of South Florida. He resided in the Brandon area since 1974 and retired in 2002 from Hillsborough District Schools, Human Resources Department after 28 years of service. He was an avid world traveler, cruiser, and a student of history. He was a 25+ year member of Tampa Rough Riders having become their 40th President in 2017-2018. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, and restoring antique wooden boats. He was a 35+ year member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, a member of the NRA, a member of Antique and Classic Boat Society (having restored several antique/classic wooden boats), Sunnyland Chapter, Century Boat Club, and a longtime member of the American Power Boat Association having raced Jersey Speed Skiffs and limited inboard hydroplanes. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, son Frank Werner of Seffner, daughter Pamela Mullin (Daniel) of Brandon, adopted daughter Melissa (Matt) of Cape St. Clair, Maryland, 5 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Donald of Tampa, Florida, sister Mary of Glen Burnie, Maryland, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Susan Gaede, and brother, Michael E. Werner. In his retirement, he continued his travels and working on boats. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 13 at 6 p.m., First Baptist Church Brandon, 216 N. Parsons Ave.
