Jay was born October 16, 1933 in Bombay, where he completed his law and accounting degrees. He worked with BOAC Airlines and Air India, which gave him the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the Middle East, and ultimately to come to the United States, where he met and married Maureen. They moved to Long Island, NY, where they raised two children, Jayu and Sunita.
In New York, he worked in law book publishing companies for thirty years. After retiring, he decided to go back to work, this time with the IRS for an additional 12 years. At that time, he began “snowbirding” to Florida, so he could stay close to his children and grandchildren in New York and Florida.
Despite a slow progressive decline in health in his advanced years, he continued to enjoy meeting new people, watching the news, discussing politics, and most of all, listening to his grandchildren’s stories. He passed away on January 2, 2023, after recently spending the holidays with family. He is survived by his wife Maureen, son Jayu, daughter in law Tammie, daughter Sunita, son in law Bryan, and four grandchildren: Emily, Keira, Connor, and Evan.
Jay expressed that he did not wish any services after his passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in Smithtown, New York, 11787.
