

Israel Vicente Colon-Perez, born on June 23, 1935, in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, passed away on May 1, 2024, at the age of 88 in Sun City, Florida. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Israel served his country with honor, being a member of the US Army serving in Germany from 1956 to 1958, and later continuing his service at home in the National Guard from 1958 to 1963. His dedication and commitment to his country and military associations were unwavering.
Israel started his career as a missile engineer and later pursued a successful career as a Project Manager for RCA and General Electric Government Services Division at the Roosevelt Roads Navy Base in Puerto Rico until his retirement in 1992. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the InterAmerican University in Puerto Rico.
His love for God was evident as he worshiped at Iglesia Bautista de Carolina in Puerto Rico until 1980, and later in his life as a member of the Iglesia Discipulos de Cristo of Casselberry, Florida. In his leisure time, Israel found joy in Puerto Rican folklore music, playing dominos, and cherishing moments and special events with his children and grandchildren. His good sense of humor, generosity and humble demeanor brought light to those around him.
Funeral Services will be held on May 9, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the National Cremation and Burial Society, located at 308 E. College Ave., Ruskin, FL 33570. A military burial honoring his service will take place on May 10, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
Israel leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Carmen Colon of Apollo Beach, Florida; his daughters Nancy Sharifi of Longwood, FL, Vivian Kaiser of Tampa, FL, Miriam Roark of Apollo Beach, FL; his son Israel Colon of Debary, FL; stepdaughter Priscilla Cumba of Haines City, FL; his brother Wilfredo Colon of San Juan, PR; his sister Nerin Diaz of Bridgeport, CT; his grandchildren Brandon, Steven, Nadia, Samuel, Gabriel, Paris, Rhianna and Caleb; two great grandchildren; four sons in-law, and dozens of nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy of service, faith, and love live on in the hearts of those who mourn his passing.
