Henry “Hank” Siemon Larsen Sr., age 86, of Ruskin, Florida, died on March 25, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry William Larsen and Ruth Siemon Larsen, both of Piru, California: his sister, Kristen Larsen Beasley, and his brother, John Larsen. Hank was born in Oxnard, California, and grew up in Piru and Fillmore, California, as well as in Yreka and Madras, Oregon. At Madras High School, Hank was active in FFA, raising chickens then pigs, and ultimately steers, for which he won the grand prize. He also excelled in newspaper work and public speaking while gaining local fame by competing for Madras High in the low hurdles at the Oregon Track and Field State Championship. Returning to Fillmore for his senior year, Hank graduated from Fillmore High in 1957.
Joining the United States Navy in the summer of ’57, Hank soon found himself moving through submarine training serving first on a diesel electric submarine, and then, after extensive training in nuclear submarine operation, Hank became a plankholder (a member of the first crew to launch a Navy vessel) on the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine, the Woodrow Wilson. During his years on the Wilson, he was an electrician.
After serving 8 ½ years in the Navy, Hank returned to civilian life in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati and became the Head of the Jet Engines Lab at General Electric, from which he eventually retired.
Hank enjoyed a variety of hobbies including playing bridge and other board games, traveling, fishing, gardening and reading. Well liked by those around him, some of the greatest tributes to what kind of man he was come from his own grandchildren: “So grateful for how Hank supported me and everything he did for me.” (Gray) “Hank was the best grandfather I could ask for.” (Jack) (Anja) “Thankful Hanky is eternally healed.” (Dillen) “Words will never be able to describe what he meant to me.” (Hale)
Hank is survived by his wife Phoebe Hale-Brumbeloe Larsen; four children – Henry Jr. (Stacy) in Cincinnati, OH; Greg in San Diego, CA; Debbie Gee (Tom) in Melbourne, FL; and Lori Smyth (Sam) in Cincinnati, OH, as well as two step children - Erin Govednik (John) in Sharpsburg, GA and Ashley Ottman (Ryan) in Lakeland, FL., 9 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Per his wishes, Hank’s ashes will be buried in the Piru, CA Cemetery next to his father, Henry William Larsen, and his grandparents, Chloe Moore and Henry Pro Siemon.
