

Bonnie Jean Blair Giehls, 85, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away March 10, 2026. Born in Maysville, Kentucky, she spent her early childhood in Flemingsburg and later lived in Petersburg and Louisville. She eventually returned to Flemingsburg, where she attended school from the fifth grade through her senior year and graduated from Fleming County High School in May 1958.
In 1956, while taking her brother Tom for an ice cream cone at the local Frosty Freeze, she met the love of her life, Roy. The two married on July 12, 1958, beginning a devoted partnership that would span decades.
Over the years, she and Roy built their life together in several places. They lived in Lexington from 1966 to 1970 before moving to Tallahassee, where they made their home from 1970 to 1994. In Tallahassee, she pursued a career in nursing, attending Lively Vocational Technical School, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification in 1972. She worked as a dedicated nurse at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee Convalescent Center, and Westminster Oaks, caring for others with compassion and commitment.
In 1994, she and Roy moved to Sun City Center, where she enjoyed many happy years. She treasured the community and the many friendships she found there.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy Giehls, Jr., and her brother Thomas C. Blair. She is survived by her daughter Mary Hawthorne (Mark) of Panama City Beach, FL, son Robert Giehls (Linda) of Easley, SC, granddaughters Nicole Hawthorne of Panama City Beach, FL, Marie Graziano (Dan) of Easley, SC, Ria Goodwin of Tigard, OR, sister-in-law Karen Blair of Boca Raton, FL, brother Robert Blair of Ocala, FL, and several loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at Aston Gardens at the Courtyards on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to LifePath Hospice or a charity of your choosing.
