Rodney was born a twin to his brother Roger on March 21, 1940, to Clinton and Alma Wahlberg in Isle, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm with brothers Wallace, Raymond and Roger. “Dad just left us for a much better place” on Friday April 30, 2021, to be with his parents and brothers in eternal peace.
Rodney met his sweetheart, MaryAnne Jurek, at a Valentine’s Day dance in 1959. They were married on May 30, 1961 at Brennyville Catholic church in Brennyville Minnesota. They raised their family of 7 children in progressively larger homes in Coon Rapids, Richfield, and Ramsey Minnesota. After the nest was empty, Rodney and Mary Anne moved permanently to their lake home in Princeton, Minnesota on Blue Lake, a sanctuary for many family gatherings over their golden years. They eventually bought a condo in Coon Rapids. Rodney entered assisted living at Homestead of Anoka in March of 2019, where he was a favorite of the staff and enjoyed his final years.
Rodney was the owner of several Building Maintenance and Floor finishing companies, one of which remains in family ownership. He never complained about going to work, and instilled a sense of pride in accomplishment and a work ethic in his children by including them in the businesses he owned.
Rodney and MaryAnne loved to travel, and made many adventures to Europe, and also ventured around the United States with children in tow to see many landmarks and attractions such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, The Disney Parks, and many campground attractions. Rodney loved the outdoors and gardening was his passion. He also loved to fish and hunt with his children, especially trips to Oak Island with family and coworkers where he commanded the conversation in the boat and around the campfire.
Rodney instilled a sense of pride and the importance of a good work ethic in his children and maintained how proud he was of each of their accomplishments. This was especially apparent by the large family gatherings he loved to plan and host for graduations, weddings, and other landmark occasions.
Rodney is predeceased by his parents Clinton and Alma Wahlberg, step-mother Frieda Thompson-Wahlberg, and brothers Raymond Wahlberg and Roger Wahlberg
