Age 88, passed away on February 21st, 2024 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Born on March 25th, 1935 to Lawrence and Adelaide Beyer (McNaughton) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was adventurous and ambitious from a young age, had a number of talents and interests, and his repertoire of stories to tell was never in short supply.
Bob was the fun-loving, eldest brother of four and enjoyed pranking his parents and three younger sisters, including the time he sewed all the flatware to the dining room tablecloth on April Fool’s Day and constantly throwing his sister Linda’s imaginary friends down the laundry chute. He graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1952 and served in the US Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician aboard the USS Salem from 1957-1959. He worked alongside his father and many other family members at the Curtis Hotel in Minneapolis for several years and, after the Navy, for Northwestern Bell Telephone company as a lineman, electrician, and accounts manager. After retirement, Bob worked various jobs to stay busy, including Southdale Mall security for many years, Pommer Co. in Maple Plain where he did woodworking, and driving the Metro Transit dial-a-ride bus for seniors. For the majority of his life, he was involved in AKC dog field trials, both as a judge as well as training and running his own Labrador Retrievers. A man of many trades and hobbies, he enjoyed playing music, hunting and fishing, camping, traveling, sailboat racing, playing and watching sports, and downhill skiing all over the United States (including Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, and Minnesota) until he was 80 years old. He shared a love of trains and streetcars with his father and frequently attended the annual EAA airplane show in Oshkosh, WI with friends. He was able to share many of these passions and hobbies with his daughter, Molly, who inherited his love of music, animals, outdoors and adventure, and telling stories. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in his eighties, he continued to enjoy training & running his dogs in field trials, traveling, meeting friends for lunch at Bunny’s Bar and Grill, and sharing stories with the locals at Lupine Brewery in Delano.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Molly, and his three sisters, Judy (Benjamin) Jenkins, Linda Markowitz, and Jean Beyer, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Adelaide Beyer.
