Paul Carl Nagel Jr.

Paul Carl Nagel, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. A devoted Husband, family man, and steadfast friend, Paul lived a life rooted in faith, service and love.

Born in Arlington, Minnesota, Paul was the son of the late Paul and Frieda (Oldenburg) Nagel. He was raised with strong values that carried him through a meaningful life of family, community, and dedication.

Paul is preceded in death by his son, Scott Nagel; his parents, Paul and Frieda; his sister, Audrey Sander; and his brothers, Stanley, Daryl and Bill Nagel.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of many years, Vonnie Nagel, his children, John Nagel (Leslie), Pam Klasges (Jeff) and (Janice Nordquist); his siblings, Elaine Nelson, Lowell Nagel, Sharon Sickman, Richard Nagel, and Philip Nagel. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A man of quiet strength and unwavering integrity, Paul was a devoted husband, a caring father and grandfather who found great joy in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known for his gentle nature, keen sense of humor, and signature “dad jokes” that brought smiles to many.

Paul served his country with honor and continued a life of service in his community. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edina, where he found spiritual nourishment and community. His faith guided his life, and he gave generously of his time and talents to both his church and those around him.

Outside of family and church, Paul enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – tending to his garden, fishing, watching sports, golf, croquet in the backyard, card playing, reading the paper and walking.

In Paul’s final years, Alzheimer’s managed to take a lot from him, but through it all his kind heart and concern for others prevailed.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis and the Brighton Hospice team, whose exceptional support brought comfort and dignity in Paul’s final days.

A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edina, Minnesota. Visitation on the 8th will start at 10am with the service at 11am. Burial will take place on a future date in 2026 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Edina or the Minnesota Veterans Home Minneapolis, in honor of Paul’s life and legacy.
