
Douglas Lee House was born July 27, 1945, to Valeria Catherine Weiss and Charles Milton House. He passed on October 12, 2025, after being in intensive care for almost three weeks with pneumonia.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Claire McSwain, who passed on September 17, 2025. He is survived by his brother, Randy House; brother in law, Tom McSwain and family; life friend, Amy Gerard and family; as well as many friends and relatives.
Doug was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. Shortly after, his family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In Milwaukee, he enjoyed and was inspired by Lake Michigan. At the age of 8 or 9 years old, he studied his grandparents' art collection of impressionist landscape paintings. At age 10 or 12 years, he started painting landscapes in oils. In 1968, he enrolled in the studio arts program at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He graduated with his BFA and Masters Degree. In 1973, he also studied at the school of The Art Institute of Chicago. From 1974 to 1978, he was adjunct faculty at Triton College and the College of Dupage, both in Illinois. He was an Instructor in studio art in many locations in Illinois and Minnesota. He has exhibited his art work in many locations. Nature and music have been a huge inspiration for his paintings. He was a painter, sculptor, and instructor. In 1979, he moved to Minnesota. In 2006, he met Amy and enjoyed going to classical music concerts and hiking in the parks with Amy, and spending holidays and special days with her and her family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf with his buddies. His favorite place was the Chippewa Flowage in Wisconsin. Sweeney's Shady Nook Resort Cabins was his favorite place to be. He loved fishing and being on the water. He worked in the public schools most of his career in Minnesota. Lately, he was a substitute teacher's aid and a substitute teacher. He made friends everywhere he went and everyone loved Doug. His faith was very important to him. Every morning he would light his candle, burn incense, and read his God calling book and talk to God.

Visitation will be held from 4pm-6pm on Wednesday, November 12, at Holy Family Church, 1960 Lexington Ave. S., Mendota Heights, MN, 55118. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 13, at St Peter's Church, 1405 Sibley Memorial Hwy. (Hwy 13) in Mendota, MN, 55150. Visitation begin at 10 am. Lunch to follow mass.
