November 26,1971 – September 20, 2026
Michael R. Diogostine, affectionately known to family and friends as Michael and to thousands of listeners across South Florida as “Mike D,” passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2026.
Michael was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, the third child born to Michael W. and Elizabeth (Dorso) Diogostine. He was an active child who loved playing sports, swimming, and snowmobiling. Even as a young boy, Michael had a quick wit and a natural ability to make people laugh. He loved watching The Carol Burnett Show and would often imitate the skits during family gatherings—a talent for entertaining others that stayed with him throughout his life.
As a young adult, Michael became a business owner in Boca Raton, Florida, operating All in One Window Cleaning and Pressure Washing. Eventually, however, Michael found something that seemed made for him: a microphone, an audience, and an opportunity to share his unmistakable voice and larger-than-life personality with South Florida.
He graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 2000, earning a Broadcast Media Certification in Radio and Television.
Michael went on to build a career in radio broadcasting and became a familiar voice across the South Florida airwaves for more than 15 years. Known professionally as “Mike D,” he became the voice of Sugar 900, bringing his personality, humor, energy, and love of radio to his listeners.
And when Friday night came around, Mike D was in his element.
He became a beloved play-by-play commentator for high school football “Around the Lake,” bringing Friday Night Lights and the legendary Muck Bowl into the homes, cars, and lives of his listeners. His calls, his enthusiasm, and his unforgettable one-liners became part of the experience. “Move Them Sticks!” and “Everything is Everything” (#EIE) were unmistakably Mike D.
But to those who loved him, Michael was so much more than the voice behind a microphone.
He was a son, a brother, a father, a Poppy, a family member, a friend, and a presence that can not simply be replaced. While listeners will remember the voice of “Mike D” coming through their radios, those closest to him will remember the man behind that voice—the quick wit, the stories, the laughter, the conversations, and all of those ordinary moments that now mean so much more.
Of all the roles Michael held during his lifetime, however, perhaps none made him prouder than being a father. He was immensely proud of his two daughters, Miranda Diogostine, 34, and Jada Diogostine, 26, and his grandson, Jayden, age 6. The love and memories they shared with him will remain an enduring part of his legacy.
Michael loved music, and when the right song came on, there was always a chance he would jump in on the “Cupid Shuffle” and start cutting it up. He was also a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, proudly proclaiming “Fly, Eagles, Fly!” Through the highs and lows of life, one thing remained certain in Michael’s world: “Everything is Everything.”
After leaving radio in 2017, Michael faced significant health challenges related to cardiovascular disease. During the last several years of his life, he made his home in Cary, North Carolina, where his lively personality, quick wit, and sense of humor continued to entertain his friends and coworkers.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael W. Diogostine; his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Philomena Diogostine; his maternal grandparents, Anthony and Angela Dorso; his uncles, Vincent Dorso, Anthony “De” Dorso, William French and Joseph Diogostine II; his aunt, Joyce (Piccolo) Thibodeau; and cousin, Debbie Diogostine.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Elizabeth Diogostine; his daughters, Miranda and Jada; his grandson, Jayden; his brother, Nick; his beloved sister, Anisa and Mike's "favorite BIL", Wayne; as well as extended family and the many friends Michael considered family who touched his life and whose lives were forever touched by his.
His voice lives on in the memories of his listeners.
His laughter and stories live on in the memories of his friends.
And Michael lives on in the hearts of the family who loved him.
Rest easy, Mike D. Your voice may be silent— you will be remembered always.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the coming weeks. The family will have a private ceremony in Connecticut.
